Welcome to the Ancient Moorings Organisation.     AMO is a new society dedicated to giving a voice to boat dwellers and to promoting the public enjoyment of our tidal waterways. In an age of human rights, it is unacceptable that a large societal group made up of thousands of individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and origins should be excluded from the rights enjoyed by everyone else in the United Kingdom (see ODPM below). The public enjoyment of Britain’s waterways is under threat from many quarters, including harbour authorities, local councils and property developers. Even the livelihoods of traditional waterfront workers are being threatened with extinction by these forces. AMO seeks amicable solutions to all these problems through lobbying, negotiation and publicity. We seek to: Protect and promote the historical rights of moorings and their users on the Thames and elsewhere, especially in tidal waters. Promote new moorings for dwelling, leisure, culture and ecological projects. Provide a collective voice and negotiating forum. Improve public access to the waterfront and the development of better facilities for the public and all river users. Encourage a vibrant and colourful use of our waterways
